Imported Silk from India

Here at DrapeStyle, we sell more silk drapes than anything else. You won’t find better quality silk and exclusive colors anywhere. Our designers are often asked questions about our silk fabrics. Here are a few facts about this stunning natural fabric:

  • Because of its natural protein structure, silk is the most hypoallergenic of all fabrics
  • An all-climate fabric, it is warm and cozy in winter and comfortably cool when temperatures rise. Its natural temperature-regulating properties give silk this paradoxical ability to cool and warm simultaneously. Silk garments outperform other fabrics in both summer and winter. Worn as a second layer, it warms without being bulky
  • In spite of its delicate appearance, it is relatively robust and its smooth surface resists soil and odors well
  • While silk abrasion resistance is moderate, it is the strongest natural fiber and, surprisingly, it easily competes with steel yarn in tensile strength
  • Silk takes color well, washes easily, and is easy to work with in spinning, weaving, knitting, and sewing

Our designers are often asked to explain the difference between the different types of silk drapery we offer at DrapeStyle.  The three primary categories of are Dupioni, Taffeta and Handwoven, also known as Matka.  All of our silks are imported from India however, there are distinct characteristics that make each one unique.

Silk Dupioni , or Douppioni, is known in the textile industry for its modest sheen and less refined texture. Dupioni is a lustrous silk often woven from two different colors of threads, so that it shimmers or changes color in the light. Dupioni is made from an irregular, rough silk reeled from double cocoons or cocoons nested together, making it necessary to reel them together. An elegant woven fabric made with a tight plain weave, fine warp yarns, filling yarns that form prominent, irregular crosswise ribs. Usually brightly colored, it has a moderately crisp drape, fairly reflective luster, and a nubby texture. DrapeStyle carries a wide variety of Dupioni in both solids and stripes.

Silk Taffeta is considered a more formal  and luxurious fabric due to its higher sheen and more refined weave. Our Taffeta has a crisp smooth finish that looks elegant in any pleat style. Please view our fabulous Striped Silk Taffeta drapes here.

DrapeStyle’ s European influenced, 100%  Handwoven Silk collection is the new look of silk.  We like to describe it as a  marriage between the elegance of silk and the natural texture of linen.  This combination gives it a unique,  heavy weight weave often used in transitional designs.  In any length, width or pleat style, this updated material has quickly become one of our best sellers. Why Order Fabric Samples?

Kravet Fabrics

You’ve read the reviews, you’ve scrolled through images showing beautiful craftsmanship and you’re ready to order custom made draperies from DrapeStyle. What should be your first step? Ordering fabric samples.

At DrapeStyle, we know the draperies you order will be exquisitely made of the highest quality materials, right here in the USA. But we want you to be completely satisfied on your selection. Many computer monitors can skew colors (when was the last time you calibrated your monitor?!) so we want to be sure that what you receive is exactly what you were hoping for.

Also, lighting can vary. I’m sure the lighting in our showroom, where many of the drapery pictures were taken, varies greatly compared to the lighting in your home. And even your lighting in your home can vary from different times of the day. I’ve had many customers admit to me that they taped many fabric samples to the wall near their window and lived with them for a few days in order to determine which color they like best.

In fact, we want to be sure you are happy with your purchase so if we see that you haven’t ordered fabric samples, we may just pop a sample in the mail for you to approve before we process your order. At DrapeStyle, we try to make the process of ordering custom made window treatments and pillows as easy as possible. We have online measuring guides, informative blogs, and a helpful staff waiting to answer your questions.

Belgian Estate Linen

Once in a while we like to just re-introduce one of our styles. This afternoon we were looking at a brand new pair of amazing Estate Linen Drapes that were just finished and I realized that we haven’t really talked about these lately and they are one of our best selling drapery styles. In case you have not seen the Estate Linen Collection you really need too.

These custom Belgian Linen Drapes are softer and thicker than our classic linens and a bit heavier. The weave is little more relaxed and the hand is beautiful. Like any natural linen fabric, they are going to be prone to wrinkles but a little time hanging on the rod should take care of them. Care cards are always included with each order to guide you so that you can hang your drapes yourself, beautifully.

We love to dress these linens up with edge-bands, borders and ribbons. For a limited time you can add a solid linen contrasting edge-band at no additional charge. If you would like one of our designer fabrics as the edge-band, we can do that too for an additional fee.

Like with silk drapes, our linens are a natural fabric so you may want to take advantage of our blackout lining promotion and upgrade the lining to blackout to both protect the fabric, give you more insulation and privacy. For $99 per panel, the blackout upgrade option is the easiest decision you will make when ordering your new drapes.

If you need some help selecting an edge-band, border or trim, please contact one of our designers. They love creating unique and one-of-a-kind creations for our clients.
