It’s no secret that DrapeStyle ships our custom made drapery and window treatments throughout the US and Canada. What you may not know is that we also ship internationally to Countries as far away as France, Australia, Japan, China and the UK. When we firsts started shipping our drapery and drapery hardware we thought, “how hard can it be?”. We learned that shipping our drapes overseas required some serious preparation. For example, we have had a few Clients in Australia (we love the accent by the way), who have ordered several times. The orders were large, enough to decorate an entire home. We initially thought that we would just “box them up” and ship the drapes like we would any other order. When we packed them, however, we quickly realized that we needed a little sturdier of a container considering these draperies were going to the other side of the world. So we contacted a local shipping / freight forwarder, and we are sure glad we did. They built us a very sturdy crate using “certified” wood that came along with a “certificate”. Like me you are probably asking what the heck “certified wood” is. It turns out that some Countries, including Australia, are very concerned about foreign insects crossing their borders. Many insects burrow their way into wood that is then used to build crates that ship goods. The little critters then catch a free ride into new Countries. So, this “certified” wood means that it is free of any hitch-hiking critters.
We got a pretty good education on the nuances of shipping our drapery into a lot of different Countries and we really think it benefits our Customers. Nothing worse than ordering your living room drapery, roman shades or any window treatments and then having them held-up at Customs or worse, rejected by Customs and shipped back to the Manufacturer.
So if you live in Paris Texas or Paris France we are confident that we will make you the very highest quality custom drapery available and have them arrive at your doorstep in perfect condition.

Occasionally we will get a call from a Customer or Designers who is trying to find a window treatment for a bathroom or a kitchen. Drapery is a tough option for either of these rooms but we specify Roman Shades for bathrooms and kitchens all of the time. As a matter of fact one of our more popular photographs is of a Roman Shade that we made for a bathroom. You can’t see it in the photo but just beneath the Shade is a large bathtub. Roman Shades provide a lot of versatility for odd sized windows or kitchens or bathrooms when a traditional curtain or drapery treatment is not practical.
Very often we see Roman Shades in kitchens over the sink area, laundry rooms, pantries and mud rooms. They offer great privacy, especially when they are properly lined and interlined.
We try to teach our Designers to think “outside the box” when it comes to custom window treatments for any room in your home. And, of course all of our Roman Shades are made right here in the USA in our custom workroom.

We love to combine different textures with our drapes. We’ll often combine Roman Shades and Woven Shades. So often Clients think that they have to chose between “shades” or “drapes” when they can actually get a great combination of texture and depth by using both styles in concert. Even if you are dealing with larger windows where you need extra long drapes or extra wide drapes you can still get a great look with either a Roman Shade, Woven Shade or even try layering a sheer behind the draperies.
Also, don’t think that if you are looking at two treatments you are looking at double the price. When you are using two different styles we can often save your budget by using less material in the drapery, especially if you are just going to be using it as a static panel. Give one of our Designers a call and we can help you find the best solution for your windows.
Sometimes less color is can be more elegant than more color. We made these very classic white silk drapes for a Client and layered them with sheers behind them. The look is more classic contemporary with French Pleats and no puddle. The drapery length is just above the floor which adds to it’s tailored and contemporary look. We also added simple white silk roman shades that compliments the silk drapes. This is a relatively small living room and the light colors and bright windows make the space look larger.
Although the predominant color of the drapes are white, by adding the sheers our Designers have created interest and depth by mixing the textures of the fabrics.
Both the Sheers and Drapes are French Pleated and we have added a white silk top-band to the Sheers. The hardware is classic iron. Like this look? Call one of our Designers and let us show you why for over ten years DrapeStyle has been the best place to buy custom drapes and curtains online.
It seems as if there are new sources of Custom Roman Shades popping-up online all of the time. We did a little review of the pricing from each supplier and thought we would put them all into a nice little cheat sheet for you. It is important for us to be as competitive as possible in our quest to provide our Customers with the best value in custom drapes and Roman Shades. Whenever we see that we are not competitive with any of the products that we sell, we try to dig in and determine, “why?” and how do we fix it.
Here is a recent review of Roman Shade Pricing that we completed.
Our first comparison is for a Tailored or Pleated Roman Shade Style. We selected a Solid Linen Fabric with standard privacy lining.

We’ve just updated the look of the DrapeStyle Blog and we really hope you like it. We also have a new refreshed focus. Going forwardm I will be blogging about all of the custom drapery, Roman Shades and fabric topics that I used too, and now more “interior design” ideas as well. After all, drapery is our focus at DrapeStyle but we are really passionate about all things “Interior Design”. I hope you enjoy the new look and we can bring you topics that interest and inspire you.
One of the latest trends that we are seeing with custom drapes and window treatments is the layering of multiple treatments in one window. for years we have layered sheers under drapes using a traverse or double rod. Today we are seeing more drapery layered over Roman Shades. We are also seeing drapery layered over hard wood shutters. The layering of treatments has been a Designers secret for years. By layering drapes and Roman Shades you are creating more depth and texture on the window or door which also allows you to work with different fabric types and patterns. As an example you can choose a classic solid linen or silk drape with a bolder patterned fabric on the Roman Shade.
You may think that this method may be more expensive than a single treatment on the window but here is what Designers would suggest; If you are going to use drapery in conjunction with a Roman Shade you can spend less on the drapery fabric and than spend more on the Roman Shade Fabric. Make the Roman Shades “Decorative” vs. “Functional” and you will need much less fabric on the Roman Shade and still get the “pop” of an expensive designer fabric. In the attached example we use a relatively inexpensive solid linen for the drapery fabric and then used a Schumacher Fabric for the Roman Shades. The Roman Shade fabric really stands out and makes the whole look work.
At DrapeStyle, our Designers can help you maximize your budget and get creative with your drapery.
Let’s face it, you can buy your standard size typical drapery panels anywhere. The panels, which are typically made in China are often inexpensive and the quality is “OK”. But if you are looking for some really unique custom drapery styles in silk and linen than you really need to give one of our Designers a call. At DrapeStyle, we have dozens of unique drapery styles available online but we also will create a “one of a kind” custom drapery design just for you. And, they often won’t cost you more than the standard sized drapery panels you will find at a Restoration Hardware or Ethan Allen Store. As a matter of fact, we can design your entire room of silk or linen drapes, Roman Shades and valances without you ever walking into a curtain or Shade Store. If you need extra long panels, wider panels or drapery to fit an odd-shaped window, we have you covered. You can even send us photo of the window and we can create a sketch for you to give you a visual of how your drapery and hardware will look.

Love the look of drapery but don’t have a lot of space, roman shades are the solution. Roman shades are a timeless compliment to finish off your windows. We also offer 4 additional styles that will be added to our site in the coming weeks.
Flat Roman – neat and clean our Flat Roman shade works well with any décor. When lowered the shade is flat with no horizontal seams.
Relaxed Shade – the relaxed bottom of the shade offers a sophisticated softness while keeping the tailored look of the flat roman style.
London Shade – gathered at the sides the London shade presents a casual elegance & softness. When lowered the balloon shape is visible at the bottom of the shade.
Cascade – constructed with evenly spaced horizontal pockets reinforced with rods the Cascade Shade is a beautifully structured option. Similar to the Flat Roman the Cascade offers a flat tailored front.
Pleated – soft pockets or horizontal folds are the trademark of our Pleated Shade. The Pleated Shade shade provides uniform structure with a contemporary softness.

Can DrapeStyle make very long curtains and drapery? Extra wide curtains and drapes? Blackout curtains? The answer, of course, is YES! We really need to do a better job of letting everyone know that DrapeStyle makes each drapes from scratch. We don’t bring them in from India or China, we actually unroll the fabric, cut them and make the drapery the old fashioned way. Making drapes here in the US went our of fashion about five decades ago but we still make them here. Manufacturing in the US – California no less, is certainly not the least expensive way to make drapery but it does allow us to make the very best quality in the business. Luxury and quality custom made drapery is what we have been about for well over a decade.
So, the short answer is, yes – DrapeStyle can make your extra long drapes, extra wide drapery and blackout curtains for your home theater room! If you don’t see exactly what you need on our website just give us a call. Our Team of Designers (Yes – they really are Designers) can help you create the perfect drapery to your exact specifications and measurements. And we can probably make them for less than what you would think. Just give us a call!
So it’s hard enough to select the perfect fabric for your new curtains or drapes but you also need to decide on a pleat too. There are so many too choose from from the traditional French Pleat, also know as the Pinch Pleat and almost a dozen more. Well, let’s first just slow down a relax. Picking the perfect pleat for your new custom curtains or drapes is really easy.
First, let’s look at your style of decor. Is it traditional? Contemporary? Maybe Transitional? Whatever your style of decor, DrapeStyle has the perfect pleat for you. Shoot, we could even make a unique pleat just for your own room.
In general terms you want to match your drapery or curtain pleat to your style. If your modern or contemporary choose a grommet pleat. Traditional you will generally go with a French or Parisian pleat. And if you are somewhere in between, or Transitional, than go for the inverted or or box pleat. And, of course, if you just know what the pleat looks like but don’t know it’s name just call us and we can identify it for you.
You may also take some time to look at some great images on Pinterest or Houzz. DrapeStyle has images posted but we can also make anything you see from one of the thousands of Designers who post thier images on these sites. So, just look around and have fun. Once you find the perfect custom curtain or drapery style then just give us a call and send us the pictures. We’ll make it for you from scratch!
