I know this may be a little old fashioned but, at DrapeStyle, we are still setting grommets in our custom made drapes by hand, just like it has been done for over 100 years. And, yes, we are doing this in the United States! When you are dealing with very high-quality custom made silk and linen drapes, or Designer Quality Drapes in fabrics like Schumacher, Robert Allen, Kravet or Beacon Hill, you really need to set the grommets by hand. Using a machine is just going to increase the chances that the fabric gets damaged. At DrapeStyle, we have been hand-setting our grommets for over a decade and we have set thousands of them in nearly every finish imaginable. Our most popular finishes are brushed nickel, shiny nickel, brass and black. All of our grommets are made from Brass so they will not rust and are suitable for outdoor curtains, drapery or awnings as well.
Here is a little video demonstrating how we set our grommets by hand.
