The Power of COLOR

How should you decide on a color for your room?  Ask yourself these questions:

~What is the main purpose of this room?  Entertaining, family time, sleeping?

~What colors DON’T you like.  Yes, you read that correctly.  By eliminating the colors you don’t like, you will narrow down the color choices.

~Do you have an inspiration piece?  Is there a rug or a piece of art that you will be using in this room?  You can select colors from these pieces for your room color.

Color has the power to convey and communicate meanings and messages without words.

Why do we find one place appealing and are uneasy in another? Why are we attracted to one product over another? Color—whether architectural or in products—accounts for 60 percent of our response to an object or a place.

The “buzz” about color is usually called “color psychology.” But the effects of color are subtle and significant; physical and psychological. Color use is not something that results in a definitive equation between “color and our moods,” as is a currently popular expression. Wherever we go we respond to color, but the importance of color is often underestimated. Color use is important to us personally in our homes and in the places where we work.

Black is the color of authority and power. It is popular in fashion because it makes people appear thinner. It is also stylish and timeless. Black also implies submission. Priests wear black to signify submission to God. Some fashion experts say a woman wearing black implies submission to men.  Black outfits can also be overpowering, or make the wearer seem aloof or evil. Villains often wear black.  Black is the color of the hidden, the secretive and the unknown, creating an air of mystery.

White symbolizes innocence, wholeness, completion and purity.  White is a neutral, it goes with everything.  Brides wear white to symbolize purity.  Doctors and nurses wear it to symbolize sterility.

Red

The most emotionally intense color, red stimulates a faster heartbeat and breathing. It is also the color of love. Red clothing gets noticed and makes the wearer appear heavier. Since it is an extreme color, red clothing might not help people in negotiations or confrontations. Red cars are popular targets for thieves. In decorating, red is usually used as an accent.  Red is the color of energy, passion, action, ambition and determination.

Pink

The most romantic color, pink, is more tranquilizing.  The color psychology of pink is unconditional love and nurturing.  Pink can also be immature, silly and girlish.  Sports teams sometimes paint the locker rooms used by opposing teams bright pink so their opponents will lose energy.

Orange is the color of social communication and optimism.  Orange is associated with meanings of joy, warmth, heat, sunshine, enthusiasm, creativity, success, encouragement, change, determination, health, stimulation, happiness, fun, enjoyment, balance, sexuality, freedom, expression, and fascination.  As a citrus color, orange is associated with healthy food and stimulates appetite.

Yellow

Cheerful sunny yellow is an attention-getter.  While it is considered an optimistic color, people lose their tempers more often in yellow rooms, and babies will cry more.  It is the most difficult color for the eye to take in, so it can be overpowering if overused.  Yellow enhances concentration, hence its use for legal pads.  It also speeds metabolism.  With the meaning of colors, in color psychology, yellow is the color of the mind and the intellect.  It is optimistic and cheerful. However it can also suggest impatience, criticism and cowardice.

Green is currently the most popular decorating color, green symbolizes nature.  It is the easiest color on the eye and can improve vision.  Green is a calming, refreshing color.  People waiting to appear on TV sit in “green rooms” to relax.  Hospitals often use green because it relaxes patients.  Brides in the Middle Ages wore green to symbolize fertility.  Dark green is masculine, conservative, and implies wealth.  Green is the color of balance and growth.

Blue is the color of the sky and the ocean, blue is one of the most popular colors.  It causes the opposite reaction as red.  Peaceful, tranquil blue causes the body to produce calming chemicals, so it is often used in bedrooms.  Blue can also be cold and depressing.  Fashion consultants recommend wearing blue to job interviews because it symbolizes loyalty.  People are more productive in blue rooms.  Studies show weightlifters are able to handle heavier weights in blue gyms.  Blue is the color of trust and peace.  It can suggest loyalty and integrity as well as conservatism and frigidity.  While blue is one of the most popular colors it is one of the least appetizing, blue food is rare in nature.

Purple

The color of royalty, purple connotes luxury, wealth, and sophistication.  It is also feminine and romantic.  However, because it is rare in nature, purple can appear artificial.  Purple is the color of the imagination.  It can be creative and individual or immature and impractical.

Brown

Solid, reliable brown is the color of earth and is abundant in nature.  Light brown implies genuineness while dark brown is similar to wood or leather.  Brown can also be sad and wistful.  Men are more apt to say brown is one of their favorite colors.  The color brown is a friendly yet serious, down-to-earth color that relates to security, protection, comfort and material wealth.

Silver has a feminine energy, it is related to the moon and the ebb and flow of the tides.  It is fluid, emotional, sensitive and mysterious.  Silver is associated with meanings of industrial, sleek, high-tech, and modern, as well as ornate, glamorous, graceful, sophisticated, and elegant.  Silver is a precious metal and often symbolizes riches and wealth.

What is a Width?

What is a “Width”?  This is probably the question I am asked most often from customers.

fabric-shop-720

You ordered fabric samples.  You taped the fabric samples to your wall next to the window.  You lived with those samples taped to your wall for two weeks, and finally decided on a color.  Now you’re ready to order your drapes.

Quantity, check.  Fabric, check.  Pleat, check.  Length, check.  Width…..width?  Do I need 1 width?  2 and a half widths?  What IS a width?

You are online, ordering drapes and you hit a snag.  What is a “width”?  This is the question I am asked most often.  A width refers to the width of the fabric used to make a drape or curtain.  Usually, when you roll the fabric off a bolt, it is about 54″ wide.  1 width starts out at 54″ wide.  The sewing begins by gathering and tacking the pleat.  Then we create 1 1/2″ side hems with blind stitching.  Then we sew 3 1/2″ overlaps-you want the drapes to overlap in the center, so light does not shine through.

These pictures are examples of drapes that do not have overlaps, they are not wide enough to completely close:

DrapeStyle also creates 3 1/2″ returns-a return is a piece of fabric at the end of the drape that returns back to the wall so that light does not shine through the sides.  So what started as a 54″ wide piece of fabric, is now a 26″ wide drape with French Pleats.

Here are some examples of returns:

So based on all of these details, NOW how many widths do I need?

DrapeStyle has this easy formula we use to determine width:

Length of drapery rod (in inches) + 16″ = X

X divided by the # of drapes = how many inches wide each drape should be.

Ask yourself how wide is your window?  Or better yet, how wide is the drapery rod you are going to hang your drapes on?  If your window is 48″ wide, you will probably want to extend the drapery rod at least 4″ on both sides of the window.  So your finish width is 56″.

Take the finished width, 56″, and add 16″ to account for hems and overlaps.  56″ plus 16″ equals 72″.

Take this number, 72″, and divide it by the number of drapes you would like.  Usually the number of drapes is 2.  So 72″ divided by 2 equals 36″. You want each drape to be at least 36″ wide.  This will ensure that the drapes will have adequate coverage and it will be 2 times fullness.  Fullness refers to the additional fabric needed to make the pleats full and rich looking.  At DrapeStyle, we think that 2 times fullness looks great.  You want your drapes to look, full, luxurious, and rich looking.  Not wimpy, and you certainly want to be sure that the drapes are made wide enough to close.  After all, you paid for the drapes to block out light and add a little privacy, right?

Here’s a chart to help you:

Widths

Or, when you are entering your information online, next to the width you select, it will tell you how wide the drape will be:

Width to Inches

Bottom line, DON’T SWEAT IT!

We are here to help you figure out all of the details so that we can create your dream drapes!  Contact us and tell us your window measurements and we’ll do the rest.  DrapeStyle has been awarded the Best of Houzz Customer Satisfaction award, three years in a row.  We LOVE to help our customers create the perfect window treatments for their home.  We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase.  DrapeStyle has been making custom drapes, roman shades and pillows for over a decade, by women with an average of 25 years experience.  We think you’ll be pleased with the results.

What’s Your New Year’s Resolution? Resolve to Refresh

Custom Curtains and Drapes by DrapeStyle

How many of you made New Year’s resolutions?

I usually make two; one resolution I know I can keep, like, I vow to take a multivitamin everyday.  And the other is more of a goal.  This year, my “goal” is to clean out and organize my craft closet.  I have a craft closet, stuffed full of all things crafty; jewelry making stuff, pillow making stuff, party decorating stuff, sewing stuff, 4th of July decorations, St. Patty’s day decorations, floral arranging stuff… You get the point.  So I plan on cleaning out my closet, and reorganize everything so it’s easy to get to.  And I’m going to try and get my husband to clean out the garage.  And I think if we clean and purge enough, we might have enough “stuff” to hold a yard sale.

Resolve to Refresh…

If the New Year puts you in the same mind set; cleaning out and organizing, you may find that you want to update a few things around the house.  What about custom made window treatments and pillows?

Much like a well tailored suit, custom window treatments in the correct length and width, can make all the difference.  And DrapeStyle can help.  We’ve been making custom drapes and roman shades since 2002.  In any length and any width, we can create a look that’s just right for your home.  You know how good you look in a tailored outfit, if it fits good, you feel great.  It’s the same with window treatments.

Sure, you can purchase drapes at the department store in the lengths they want to sell.  Sure, you can go to the home store and purchase the same ready made roman shades your neighbors have.  Or you can get custom window treatments made in your choice of over 400 fabrics, 6 drapery pleat styles, 5 roman shade styles, and dozens of different trims, tassels, fringe and ribbon for that truly custom look.

Baby It’s Cold Outside! DrapeStyle Can Help!

Winter’s coming…and according to the Farmer’s Almanac, you’d better stock up on long johns and firewood.  Especially if you’re east of the Rockies, predictions are, you are going to be hit hard!  Pair that with rising energy costs, and your monthly home heating costs could go through the roof!

Here are 7 things you can do to help combat a cold house and make your thermostat happy:

1. Add A Down Filled Comforter

Down has always been the preferred insulator when worn or for bundling up while sleeping.  Body heat is trapped between the little fluffs of down, creating a re-generating heat source that will keep you warm all night long.  There are different weight levels available-some are even available with dual-zone comforters for bed partners with different sleeping temperature preferences! The best down originates from birds from the coldest climates, such as Hungarian or Siberian geese.  Plus, using a duvet allows you to change your room’s look easily from season to season or from one style to another without having to reinvest in a quality insert.

2. Use A Humidifier

Cold, winter air is notoriously dry, often leaving your home’s humidity around 10%…far short of the ideal of 30-40%  Having the correct humidity levels not only provides additional warmth to a house, but it also has many other benefits such as reducing allergens, reducing the risk of furniture damage, and controlling static electricity.

3. Change The Direction Of Your Ceiling Fans

Most fans spin and pull air up to the ceiling.  By simply reversing the direction of your ceiling fan and pushing the rising heat back down into your living space, you can save as much as 10% on energy costs.  Ceiling too high to manually change blade direction?  This may be a good time to replace your fan with one with a built-in remote control.

4. Reinforce Cold, Drafty Areas

Windows — Take a candle or incense stick to the window on a breezy day.  Move around the frame, inside and outside of the trim, and see if the smoke moves.  If it does, you have a draft spot.  Use paintable caulk for around the trim and silicone caulk outside if you can.  There are window weatherstrips available at most home improvement stores as well.  Insulating your window draperies can help keep the draft from entering the room as well.

Doors — The old, simple solution is a draft dodger-a fabric tube filled with sand or rice that lays along the bottom of your door.  Etsy has some fun and stylish options.  The best option, however, is to replace the weather stripping around your door, including the threshold strip.

Scarlet Mulberry Silk, Cartridge Pleat

5. Add Insulated Drapery Lining

DrapeStyle can help with this one!  DrapeStyle offers insulated drapery lining, also called thermal lining, for all drapes and roman shades.  It’s common for drafts to come in around windows.  However, most pre-fabricated drapery panels available at most retailers, come with a simple, thin lining or with no lining at all.  DrapeStyle’s custom drapes and roman shades include lining! Let us help you select the interlining that’s best for your climate.  Interlining also adds body and weight to your drapes for a very luxurious, custom look. Our skilled workroom can add the following interlining to your drapes:

Flannel Interlining— Similar to the lightweight flannel sheets your grandma used, this supple lining goes between the face fabric and standard sateen lining.  Flannel interlining has been shown to reduce heat loss by 25%.

Bump Interlining— Originally used in Europe’s cold-climate country homes, bump interlining offers the most insulation for cold and sound.  It also gives a nice weight and drape to fine fabrics, such as silk.

6. Add Rugs To Bare Floors

Aside for the obvious (that rugs are warmer than tile or wood), wool rugs in particular are a natural insulator similar to down.  They’re hypoallergenic, provide moisture, and are incredibly durable.  Well-kept wool rugs can be handed down through generations.  Even better than an area rug would be wall-to-wall wool carpeting.

7. Get An Energy Audit

An inexpensive (often subsidized-check with your local electric company) professional test for air leaks, insulation levels and other thermal performance factors is the best way to learn where the cold is getting into your house.  They will give you tips and tricks to help keep the cold out, and often times will do the work themselves at a discounted fee.  Click here for more information on audits.

So there you have it, 7 great ways to help keep the cold out this winter.  Or, you could always take up baking, not only will the heat from the oven heat up your home, but the baked goods you hand out to neighbors and co-workers will get you off of Santa’s naughty list!

Ideas for Dressing Tall Windows

It’s first thing in the morning, you pour yourself a cup of coffee, you turn around and who’s looking in your window staring you in the face?  Your neighbor.  Unless you don’t mind waving to your neighbor in your pajamas,  you need window treatments.  But if you have tall windows, what options are there?

Tall, dramatic windows can offer spectacular views and add height to a room.  But covering them is a whole other story.

The first thing you need to ask yourself is, do I need privacy, or are these window treatments going to be decorative.  If your neighbor is close enough to see what you are eating for dinner, then you probably want window treatments that offer privacy.  If you need full coverage, from the top of the window to the bottom, then consider drapes with privacy lining.  DrapeStyle has the ability to make any length drape.  Select a decorative fabric that complements your room, then simply draw the drapes closed when privacy is needed.

Do you occasionally need the room darkened?  Roman shades with blackout lining is the answer. You can keep the shades raised most of the time for a more decorative look, and lower them when the time comes to enjoy a movie at home, or when the baby needs to take a nap.

Sheers

Do your tall windows offer an incredible view that you don’t want to obstruct?  Consider adding sheers to your windows.  DrapeStyle carries sheers in several different colors, style and fabrics so you are sure to find one that works for you.  Sheers can add drama and softness to a room, without breaking the bank.  Whether you are looking for a classic sheer or something more modern, DrapeStyle has plenty of reasonably priced sheers to choose from.

Want to add a little color to your walls but keep your view?  Why not add long drapes to either side of the window?  A drape that is 1 or 2 widths wide might be just enough to add a little drama to your room.  You can add a decorator touch by using shorter drapery rods to hang your long drapes from.  DrapeStyle offers custom drapery hardware so you can order just the right size hardware, custom made for your windows.  And by using narrow drapes, you can save a little money.  Have you been eyeing a dramatic fabric but having it made into full width drapes might put you over your budget?  Decorative drapes are a great way to get that pop of color you want without breaking the bank.

If you really don’t want coverage but need protection form the sun, consider using UV window film on your windows.  It will cut down on glare and help protect your furnishings from the sun.

Want to add more drama to your tall windows?  Bring the attention up with a band of contrasting fabric towards the top of the drape.  Need to ground things a bit?  Bring the attention down by adding a band of fabric to the bottom of your drape and your space will feel more cozy.

DRAPERY LINING-How Do I Choose?

linings stacked

Drapery Lining Guide – The Smart and Beautiful Way to Save Energy.

Selecting drapery lining and interlining for your new drapes, curtains or roman shades is one of the most important decisions you can make for creating the “Perfect Custom Curtain or Drape” for your home.  By adjusting your lining and interlining choices, you can create specific results for your room.  Whether you are trying to reduce light penetration, reduce external noise, save on energy costs or just wish to create a fuller bodied drape, your drapery lining choice is key.

Properly lined and well made custom drapery and roman shades can provide significant insulating benefits and reduce your homes energy usage.  There have been several recent studies on just this topic.  In fact, one energy study conducted by University of Texas, noted that adding insulated drapes to a single glazed window reduces heat loss by 56% (48% for double glazed windows). It also provides complete privacy, muffles sound and lasts longer than any other window treatment.

The following are the lining and interlining options DrapeStyle offers, and their purpose:

Standard Lining: A quality drape is manufactured with a lining which backs the primary drape material.  The lining protects the drape material from the damaging effects of sunlight which, over time, will fade and deteriorate the drape fabric, whether it is silk, linen, cotton or polyester.  Quality linings are typically made from a blend of cotton and polyester.  The cotton provides softness to the material while polyester provides wrinkle resistance and moisture protection.  Standard lining adds a layer of protection with moderate light penetration.

interlining-white

Flannel Interlining: The interlining is the layer of material between the fabric and the lining.  DrapeStyle uses a 100% cotton, premium, heavy-weight flannel interlining.  The flannel is loosely woven to provide a greater insulating factor and dramatically add to the fullness of your custom drapes.  You may choose flannel interlining and standard lining, or flannel interlining and blackout lining to your custom drapes.

Bump Interlining: Bump Interlining, or “English Bump” as it is often called is an extremely heavy-weight 100% cotton flannel interlining.  The name “English Bump” refers to its use as the home’s primary insulation in early nineteenth century England.  At more than twice the thickness and weight as our flannel interlining, bump is the perfect choice when sound and climate insulation are required.  Bump interlining is sandwiched between the fabric and the lining.  You may add bump interlining with your standard lining or blackout lining.

Blackout Lining: We often refer to “Blackout Lining” as the “Boutique Hotel Look”.  Blackout lining is almost exclusively used in hotel rooms as it blocks nearly 100% of the outside light from penetrating the drape.  Blackout lining is a synthetic material which is very heavy and (like in most hotels) can be very rigid. There are several types and grades of blackout lining and at DrapeStyle we use a very specific blackout lining that is extremely flexible and soft.  Blackout lining is quite expensive but if you are looking for nearly complete blockage of sunlight, streetlights and UV Protection, it is a great investment.

Here is an example of lining and interlining combinations and their effect on the drape:

Lining Selection Interlining Selection UV Protection Sound Insulation Energy Insulation Light
Penetration
Standard Lining None Moderate Moderate Moderate Moderate
Standard Lining Flannel Interlining Very Good Very Good Very Good Very Good
Blackout Lining Flannel Interlining Exceptional Very Good Very Good Exceptional
Standard Lining Bump Very Good Exceptional Exceptional Very Good

DrapeStyle only uses Hanes Linings and Interlinings.  Hanes is one of the oldest textile manufacturing firms in America.  While Hanes is well known for their clothing fabrics, those in the textile industry know Hanes for their high-quality linings and interlinings.  Hanes is recognized as the leader in residential drapery lining products.  Designers insist on Hanes because they know that without a high quality lining or interlining, the sun will fade and destroy any drape quickly.  A high quality lining not only makes the drape look better and feel better but it is critical to ensuring your drapes will not fade or disintegrate from the sun.

Still have questions?  We’re here to help.  At DrapeStyle we have been making premium quality custom drapery for homeowners and designers in the US and Canada since 2002.  If you have questions or would like samples of any of our fabrics or linings, please contact one of our designers at 800.760.8257.  We will be happy to help you with the process of ordering your custom drapes, curtains or roman shades.

Window Treatment Solutions for French Doors

Window Treatments for French Doors

At DrapeStyle, one of the most common questions we get asked is, “What kind of window treatments do I put on my french doors?”

custom roman shades and drapes
So often the answer is roman shades.  DrapeStyle can custom make roman shades in any width and length, therefore we can cover ANY french door of ANY size.   DrapeStyle literately, has hundreds of fabrics suitable for roman shades. One shade?  Two shades?  That is up to you.   Both options look great, but if you are considering one shade, you will probably need to mount the shade above the moulding so that there is enough clearance for the doors to open and close.  If you opt for one shade per window or door, you have a choice between outside or inside mounted shades, both are great additions to french doors.

Roman Shades work very well on French Doors. Choose the fabric, style and lift system that works for you! By Budget Blinds of Susquehanna Valley. www.budgetblinds.com:

Drapes are a great option as well.  You can select any style, any pleat and any fabric.  The drapery rod will be hung above the moulding, usually about three inches, and will need to extend past the doors a few inches on either side of the doors.  If you will be opening and closing the drapes often, we suggest that you design your drapes with drapery rings and rods or a traverse rod.  Grommets don’t always slide very easily.

Like the curtains for over the doors. This would work over our sliding glass doors instead of the vertical blinds. Also like the arrangement of the chair.:

Want a more designer look?  Add roman shades AND drapes to your french doors.  This will give you that designer touch that is often overlooked. The roman shades will give you the privacy you need and the drapes will provide that decorative touch.  Mix and match patterns and colors!  Layer on the texture!  DrapeStyle has over 400 fabrics so you are sure to find fabrics that will compliment each other and look great in your home.  You could even custom order a couple of different patterns of drapes that coordinate with your roman shades, and change them out with the seasons!

Not into patterns?  Consider a clean, monochromatic look.  Neutrals are very in right now,  and they can create a serene and soothing environment perfect for your bedroom.  DrapeStyle has dozens of neutral colored silks, linens and cotton fabrics to choose from.  You can even order samples of anything you see on the website so that you can view the fabrics in your own home.  For a truly custom look, roman shades are an inexpensive way to cover your french doors.  Purchasing window coverings is an investment and we want you to be satisfied with your purchase.  That’s why designers are here to help you with the ordering process.  We’re here Monday-Friday 9am-5pm MST so don’t hesitate to contact us.

Custom Roman Shades as a Window Treatment Option!

Trellis Citrine

We love the look of drapes, so much so it’s even in our name!

But did you know DrapeStyle also makes Custom Roman Shades?

When lowered, Roman Shades can provide light control, privacy and insulation to your windows.  When raised, they look like a decorative valance-what an easy and inexpensive way to transform your space!

Standing alone or paired with our custom drapes or custom curtains, DrapeStyle’s Roman Shades are a stand-out!  Each shade is made-to-order according to your specifications right here in our Arizona studio. Choose from any of our Silks, Linens, Cottons, or Polyester blends, along with noise reducing, privacy, or blackout lining options. The customization continues with your choice of cord position and outside or inside mount options.  All shades include cleats and mounting hardware.

Inside or Outside Mount?

Inside Mount

Once you’ve selected your fabric from DrapeStyle’s 450 fabrics choices, you will need to determine whether you want to mount your Roman Shades inside or outside the window.  Would you like a more tailored look?  Do you have beautiful molding around your windows you would like to showcase?  You may want to consider Roman Shades that are mounted on the inside of the window frame.  When measuring for your Roman Shade, take three measurements for the width; at the top of the window, the middle and the bottom.  Your width will be the smallest of the three measurements.

For the length, again, take three measurements; left side, middle and right side.  Your length will be the longest of the three lengths.  A minimum depth of 1 ½” within the window casing is needed in order to mount the shade.

Outside Mount

Would you like to create the illusion that your window is larger than it really is?  Would you like to hide an unattractive window?  Are there any obstructions that might hinder you from mounting the Roman Shade inside the window frame?  Outside mounted shades offer more flexibility for mounting.  For instance, the shade can be mounted anywhere above the window. You can create the illusion of a larger window by hanging your Roman Shade higher than the top of the window frame.  This is also a good option when there is not enough depth within the window casing to mount the shade inside.  The outside mount will also provide the best light blockage and privacy.

To measure for an outside mounted Roman Shade, measure the total width of your coverage area.  We recommend that you add 1-1 ½” to each side beyond the casing of your window.  This will be your ordering width.  For the length, measure the height of the coverage area and add 1” above the top casing for mounting.

Whichever mounting option you select, Custom Roman Shades are a great way to dress up a window and enhance your living space.

What is Control Position?

This is a simple one.  Would you like the continuous cord that raises and lowers the shade, to hang on the left side or the right side of the shade?

Which Shade Style Do I Choose?

Selecting a shade style will depend on your style and usage of your Roman Shade.  All of DrapeStyle’s fabrics can be used to make any style of shade.  If you need a little help, we’re here to guide you through the process: 800.760.8257.  Here are some helpful descriptions of different types of shades:

Flat Roman Shades

Flat Roman Shades are made with one piece of fabric and lay flat against the window.  They offer a clean uncluttered look.  Whether you are using a pattern or a solid fabric, the Flat Roman Shade is a classic way to enhance your room!

Do I need Lining?

In one word, YES.  Lining not only gives the Roman Shade weight so that it drapes beautifully, but lining your Custom Roman Shades protects the fabric from damaging sunlight.  Selecting the appropriate lining for your room will make all the difference.

Will the shade be in a room such as a nursery or a theater room where you don’t want any light to come through?  You will need Blackout Lining.

Would you like privacy but still want some light to come through?  Select Sateen Lining.

Are your windows drafty in the winter or does the sun pour through in the summer?  Select Bump Lining to repel the heat and absorb cold.

Your Order is Complete!

And there you have it!  In just a few easy steps you can order Custom Roman Shades to properly fit your windows.  Or, if you still have questions, you can contact one of our designers and they will be happy to assist you with designing your very own Custom Roman Shades.  For more inspiration and ideas, please visit: http://www.drapestyle.com/custom-roman-shades.html

Custom Drapes Online

Most people think that if they are looking to buy custom drapes online they are going to have to give-up service.  After all most online drapery retailers are just huge call-centers that churn and burn sales people every couple of weeks.  You may have a catalog in front of you from one of these retailers and call their call-center to find that the person on the other end of the phone doesn’t know much more about custom drapes than you do.

At DrapeStyle, things are different.  We’ve had the same Team of Sales Designers for over 7 years.  They are not commission based and they aren’t trying to sell you anything that you don’t need.  In fact, our Designers are more concerned with having a happy Customer than making a sale.

Our Designers are also “real” Designers who have gone to school to learn there trade.  After School they have worked in Design Firms where they have actually met with Clients, prepared drawings and specified custom drapes for extra long windows, wide window and really every kind of window you can imagine.  We have to pay our People more than what a “call-center” would have to pay their People but we think it’s worth it.  As a matter of fact, we know that it’s worth it.  Our Designers are true “consultants” and they are very capable of making sure that when you order your custom drapes you are getting the right size, pleat style and lining option, including blackout lining, that your will work in your living room, bedroom or where ever.

Custom Drapery Design for Extra Long Windows

Amazing Blackout Custom Curtains and Drapery

We did a little informal demonstration to better illustrate how much light blackout lined custom curtains and drapery eliminate.  The following photo is shot on a single window with two linen drapery panels.  One of the curtains was made with blackout lining and one was made with standard privacy lining.  The photo was shot on a hot and sunny afternoon.  The difference between the two curtain panels is quite dramatic.  When you see how much of the light is blocked by the blackout lining (95%) you really get a better understanding how using quality blackout lined curtains, drapery or roman shades would significantly lower you homes energy bills and save your interior upholstery fabrics from sun damage.   At DrapeStyle we encourage the use of blackout lining whenever the application is appropriate.  It certainly adds weight to the drapery but if you are using quality drapery hardware blackout is really the way to go when buying your next pair of custom drapery or curtains.
