Our Designers have selected some gorgeous new fabrics for our new Luxe Drapery Collection by DrapeStyle. These fabrics are unique and some are exclusive to DrapeStyle. We have small quantities from a variety of smaller boutique Fabric Houses and we really love them. Hope you do too.
Our first selections are gorgeous thick woven velvet and a embroidered poly featuring a infinity knot embellishment. Order fabric samples quickly as these fabrics won’t last long!
We are often asked by our customers “Which pleat style do I choose”? There isn’t a right or wrong answer, it’s a preference. Deciding what you like and which style will work for your room can be overwhelming so we try to break it down by asking a few questions.
1- What is the style of you room? Is it Modern/ Contemporary? Traditional? Transitional?
2- How do you want your drapes to hang? Do you want them tailored, holding lines from the top of the drape to the floor? Or do you like a more relaxed look, structured at the top and relaxed or billowing as the drapes fall?
3- Are the drapes functional? Will you be opening and closing these drapes often or are they stationary (just frame your window)?
Once we have discussed these specifics with you selecting a pleat style from one of our 7 options is a breeze.
Rod Pocket – Typically used in Traditional spaces this pleat is recommended if your drapes are decorative and you will not be opening and closing them often. Rod Pocket drapery shirr snugly onto the drapery rod and do not move easily.
Flat Panel (no pleats) – Flat panels are typically used to cover larger spans with less fullness (less ripple), or are used to give a relaxed or unstructured look to your window. You will have to dress your drapery each time you open and close to achieve a uniform look.
Grommet- Clean & uniform by design Grommet panels are a favorite for modern spaces. Grommets come in a range of finishes & diameters to compliment any window. Grommet panels require dressing to get an even fullness but are structured from top to bottom.
Inverted- If you like a structured heading but a more relaxed body the Inverted Pleat is perfect. The “box” shaped pleat is tailored at the top but loses the lines as it falls toward the floor. This pleat works with Modern & Transitional styles. This pleat requires no dressing to achieve a uniform look every time.
Cartridge – the cylindrical shape of the Cartridge pleat offers the look of a flat panel but retains the structure of a pleated drape. The look is clean and modern but can also be used in transitional applications.
French Pleat (Pinch Pleat) – The French Pleat holds the lines of the drapery from the 3-fold fan at the top to the bottom hem. Easy to open & close this pleat requires little to no dressing and gives a nice uniform fullness anytime. This is our most requested pleat. We recommend it to compliment any traditional setting.
Parisian Pleat – a twist on the traditional French Pleat the Parisian pleat offers the same ease and structure of the French with a slight modern twist. This pleat is recommended for Modern or Transitional spaces and is a favorite of our designers.
Custom draperies should reflect your style and personality; you really can’t go wrong with any pleat choice.
Have you ever wondered where Interior Designers buy their gorgeous and luxurious custom made drapery and Roman Shades? Well, for over a decade Designers in the US and Canada have been buying them from DrapeStyle. After all, that’s how DrapeStyle was began. You see, we had an idea that if we could reduce our costs by selling directly to Designers over the Web we could sell our drapery at a lower price and still have enough profit left over to run the business. That’s how it all started. We have grown to be one the Nations largest online retailer of Custom Made Drapery, Roman Shades and Curtains selling to both Residential and Commercial Designers as far away as Australia. Our drapes help to furnish some of the most majestic homes in the nation but mostly they are in homes just like yours. Since when you buy drapes from DrapeStyle, your buying directly from the Manufacturer. No middleman and no middleman mark-up. Just amazing high quality drapery and Roman Shades at affordable prices. And, because we are the manufacturer, we can make your drapes in any length, width or pleat style you can imagine. Lining Options? Oh, do we have lining options. Blackout, Bump, Heavy Flannel. Whatever lining you can imagine we have it. We literally have dozens of lining options to choose from.
Now, for the best part. We also give plenty of free advice from real Designers, not Sale People. Our Designers do not work on commissions so there is no pressure. Just good advice and a genuine concern for making your you love your drapes as much as we did making them. Keep in mind that if you don’t see exactly what your looking for on our Website, please call one of our Designers for help.
If you are in the market for new custom drapes or Roman Shades than this little price comparison may be helpful. Ever wish you could get your hands on a pair of amazing custom drapes at an even more amazing deal? Well, let me let you in on a little secret. Turns out that when leading online custom drapery retailer DrapeStyle is finished using their drapes for catalog photo-shoots, showroom samples or just have overstock fabrics that post those drapes on a part of their website called THE OUTLET. They don’t promote it very often but you can actually buy amazing and unique, often one of a kind custom drapes for 50-70% off retail price. You won’t have all of the flexibility to create your own custom size but if they will work in your home you’ll get an amazing deal. Remember though, these are unique items and they often only have one pair available so, if they work, grab them really fast before they are gone. You’ll get amazing quality and an even more amazing price, keep in mind that these are usually the drapery panels that they are featuring for a catalog!
In The Details.
We’ve all heard the saying “the devil is in the details”, for me the details are the most exciting part of any project. There is nothing like finding the perfect accent piece to complete your masterpiece.
Have you ever been out and about and you see a little trinket that reminds you of someone you know & just the thought of giving it to them puts a smile on your face? The high you get giving it to them and seeing the priceless look on their face when they realize that you know them so well…that’s one of my favorite parts of designing for my clients.
Completing a room with custom drapery is one of the best ways to add detail to your room. Finding the perfect shade of Silk or Linen opens the door to a world of possibilities. Do I add a border, maybe a trim? How about a contrasting edge band? Is there a complimenting sheer or Roman Shade I should consider? These are some of the many options that I love helping my clients with.
Working at DrapeStyle I am in constant awe of the incredible fabrics & trimming options that we are presented with. Just today I met with a mill representative who brought over 20+ books of their latest trim collections. I was immediately inspired. From tape trims, to rusche to tassel trim my mind was racing. I’m looking forward to pulling together a number of trim options to coordinate with our existing drapery styles and I have already started sketching some new ideas inspired from my meeting today. The possibilities are endless; the “details” are endless.
We are really seeing more interest in providing “motorization” to our Clients. At DrapeStyle we have experience with complex motorization projects which we offer to our local Clients in Southern California.
To begin lets discuss what exactly is custom drapery motorization? Almost everyone has seen the movie where the owner of a mansion pushes a button to have her drapery slide open to reveal an incredible view of the ocean. Or, push a button in a home theater to darken the room in the middle of the afternoon to enjoy a movie. This is drapery motorization. When we motorize drapes we are adding an electronic engine to the hardware to automatically open and close the drapes.
There are several types of motors and hardware systems available and the prices of those systems are really becoming more affordable to the average homeowner. With the most basic system you can purchase a track with a battery powered motor that does not require any wiring and is operated by a simple remote control. These systems are available from manufacturers like Somfy and start at just in the couple-hundred dollar range. The limitations of these systems will require that the weight of the drapery to be within the requirements of the system. These systems are also available for Roman Shades and Roller Shades as well.
More complex motorization systems will require that a Contractor / Electrician hard-wire the system into your home. These systems will generally be part of a “whole-home automation” package where lights and drapery or shades are all integrated into a system that controls the homes lights, audio and other electronics. Fully integrated installations are often installed as part of new home construction or a major remodel due to the extensive internal wiring and installation.
If you are looking for a hybrid system there are plenty of options available that will require some wiring to be completed by a Contractor or Electrician without major demolition or remodeling. In a typical drapery motorization project, our DrapeStyle Installer will coordinate and in many cases recommend a contractor who can facilitate the wiring while our installer manages the installation of the drapery, shades and tracks.

Sometimes when trying to decide between Custom Drapes for your windows or Custom Roman Shades the answer just may be “yes”. Yes, as in “both”. One of our all time favorite looks is using a Roman Shade in conjunction with a drape. This technique adds depth and texture to your room and lets you play with more fabric colors and textures as well. Consider using a solid custom drape along with a strong pattern with your Roman Shade or vice-versa. In the attached image we are using a really bold fabric on the Roman Shade, Schumacher Imperial Trellis in navy along with a solid linen custom drape in navy and white. The fabrics work really well together and really create a nice depth of field to the room and window.
Don’t be afraid to mix and match silk and linens as well. You could get a great look by mixing a solid silk roman shade in a base color along with a complimenting custom drape in a patterned linen or poly.
Have fun and let us know how we can help design your next set of custom drapes!

We’ve received some really great feedback from our Shop at Home Drapery Services in Southern California so, away we go. So far we have added Northern California (the Bay Area) as well as Philadelphia, New Jersey and Chicago. We will continue to add more Markets as we find great Designers to partner with.
If you are not familiar with our Shop at Home Services here is a quick recap. At DrapeStyle we work with very talented Interior Designers all over the US and Canada. Some of them ‘specialize’ in Window Treatments while others are either generalists or have other specialties. We have asked those who have an interest or specialty in drapery to see if they have an interest in partnering with DrapeStyle for our Shop at Home Program. It’s really a win-win-win relationship as we are able to service more Clients and our Designers get to meet more new Customers as well. I think the biggest winner is the Customer who can shop for their Window Treatments in the comfort of their own home with a talented Designer. I stress “Designer” because these are not your typical “Sales Person” but an actual trained Interior Designer who has experience in all facets of Design.
In addition to our Shop at Home Services we are also currently looking at some great new Showroom Locations to be opened this Spring. We are currently looking in Central / Northern New Jersey primarily the Parsippany Rt 22 Corridor. In addition to New Jersey we are also looking in the Chicago Suburbs.
Thanks for reading.

It’s no secret that the key to good Marketing is the ability of the Marketer to be able to explain very clearly what their company does. The Company Mission, Service or Product Offering. It is probably one of, if not THE most basic concepts in Business and yet, one of the most elusive. Sounds simple and it’s not. The Business Author Jim Collins wrote an entire book about the Concept in the book called Good to Great, which I highly recommend. Very simply the book describes how Companies who have lost site of their “Core Business”, and who are unable to communicate that core competency clearly are doomed to failure. Do one thing, do it consistently well and communicate what you do well and you will succeed. Never take your eye off the ball.
At DrapeStyle, part of my responsibilities is to manage our Marketing efforts and one of the fundamental cornerstones of those efforts is to be sure that the World knows exactly what it is that we do. After over a decade of trying, I am still working on it. Have not mastered it yet but still chipping away day-by-day. I am reminded every single day of where I am failing…and here is an example or two…
When you are in e-commerce one of the metrics or data points we look at to see how our business is doing and if we are getting in front of the “right” Customer is by looking at Search Queries. A Search Query is just the word, keyword or term that a Customer uses to either find You, or to find what they are looking for on your Website or Store. In our case, we sell Custom Made Drapery – that’s it. Now we sell some hardware, tie-backs and accessories but they are just that, accessories. Our Core Competency, Our Mission and our Business is to make very high-quality custom drapes. When we say “Custom” what we mean is that we actually take rolls of fabrics, thousands of fabrics and convert them into drapery. That is what we do.
Getting back to Search Queries. So, you have “External Search Queries” – Where a potential Customer is looking for something using a Search Engine (Google, Bing, etc.). And, there are Internal Search Queries where a Customer is on your website and looking for a product or service within your site. So, in our case Customers may search via Google or Bing or Yahoo for “Custom Drapes” and they will find DrapeStyle. Or, they may search for “Drapes” and find DrapeStyle. Researching the search external queries will tell you quite a lot about what Customers are looking for and how they found you externally – Silk Drapes, Linen Drapes, Cotton Drapes, Pleated Drapes, etc.
The Internal Search Queries are equally important because they are going to tell you as a Marketer how well the Market / Public is understanding Your Message, Your Products, Your Service, Your Value Proposition. In our case, we sell Custom Drapes. So, when a Customer arrives on our website and do not understand…quickly, that we sell Custom Made Drapes, than, we are failing. When someone searches “Red Velvet Drapes” on our site, or “Red Silk Curtains“, or “124 inch lined drapery panels”, or “French Pleated Linen Drapes” than we have failed. The Customer does not understand that ALL of our drapes can be made to be blackout drapes. All of our drapes are available in any pleat style imaginable and come in any length or width you need. And that we can make any color Velvet, Silk, Linen or Cotton Drapes they wish. And, yes, we get dozens of these search queries per day. We fail, but keep learning and keep refining our message every single day.
I guess the fact that after 10 years of trying to communicate that at DrapeStyle all we do is make Custom Drapes proves that even the simplest business concepts can be the most demanding to perfect. But please do tell your friends, 100% custom, any size, any pleat, any fabric and color – that is all we do.
